The Spell is out now!

Today we release "The Spell" - a concept album based on the old motif of "Death and the Maiden", but with our own unique story of a girl who falls in love with the personification of Death. For the first time we wrote music according to a lyrical concept, we let the words of the story guide our melodies and rhythms and fully immersed ourselves in this fictional world. Now we invite you to do the same - dream, interpret, make it your own.

"The Spell" was written over a long period of time in various parts of the world. From the peaceful mountains in Switzerland to the busiest parts of New York city. We recorded the album in two parts, one in the Soundfarm Studios in Lucerne and the other at New Sound Studio with Tommy Vetterli who co-produced the album with Anna Murphy and mixed it.

We want to thank Kate at AISAmusic UK and everyone at Nuclear Blast for making this album possible. Tommy Vetterli (mix) and Tony Lindgren (mastering) for making the music shine. Tommy, Fredy & Dennis for co-writing with us. Costin for bringing the story to life with his amazing visuals. Fredy, Shir-Ran, Mitch, Andi & Patrik for their guest appearances.

And all of you for listening. We hope you enjoy it.

If you’d like to get yourself a copy, you can do so here — thank you!

We’ve had some proper laughs making a rehearsal *space* video for this song! Thanks to a bit of technology you can, for the very first time, see what we see when we’re “in the zone” (and perhaps not entirely sober). Merlin and Ivo kept zapping in and out of reality, though — presumably to the far reaches of alternate universes, on a quest for inspiration for our next album...

The beautiful cover art for the single was created by immensely talented Celtic Botan from Brazil! We shall buy her a Caipirinha or two when we head over there in May. Check out her other work at!

We're In The Studio

With the start of the new year, we have officially begun recording our very first album at Tommy Vetterli's New Sound Studio. Creativity is flowing, spirits are high, and we could not be happier with the results so far! We cannot wait to share this with you. The album will be out this summer on Nuclear Blast records.

In the meantime, we’ll keep you up to date right here, and on:

OUT NOW: The Official Video for Six Days

It‘s the sixth of November. A good day to present you with the video to our song „Six Days“, a dark and abstract story about the last man left on earth. We‘ve always wanted this special song to have a visual representation and we knew immediately that if we ever could realise the project the man for it would be our favourite artist Costin Chioreanu

Without any guidelines he has managed to capture the atmosphere perfectly, the video really shows what was inside Anna’s head when she wrote the lyrics and recorded the first demo in the middle of the night. When we further worked on this song we realised once more that we are not really bound to one style of music and that we have the freedom to expand our horizon even more - that‘s why this song will always have a special meaning to us. We hope you love it as much as we do!

We’re proud and happy to present to you the next single and video from our upcoming album ‘This Is The Sound’: Avalanche!

Let us take you on another journey into a picturesque, abstract world. Listen to the summoners of the ‘Avalanche'. A story about a cult and a freezing end to an intimate death wish…

Shot in the heat of beautiful Tenerife, an intentionally contradictory setting, this video tells you our story with symbolism and movement, contrasts & metaphors. So sit back and let your imagination run wild - enjoy!

Once again we’d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work: the talented actress Fabienne Fellmann and of course AVA Studios GmbH and their awesome team!

Also included in the digibook will be an alternative and limited cover artwork plus an extended 32-page booklet, filled with the our notes on the stories behind the songs.

Official merch is now available to order from our online store, including pre-orders for the official album cover shirt:

We’re proud and happy to present to you the first single and video from our upcoming album ‘This Is The Sound’: Black Moon!

Black Moon' is one of the first songs we wrote after our debut single last year, and probably the point where we definitely "found" our sound. Ivo randomly called his original demo 'Moon' and that triggered the idea of a story based on the fear of a black moon... So, as a lyrical theme, we ended up exploring mankind's tendency to add an apocalyptic interpretation to the lunar eclipse.
We'd like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in the scorching hot 'lunar landscape' of Tenerife: he talented Fabienne Fellmann and her fellow actors as well as AVA Studios and their awesome team!

We’ve also launched the pre-order for the album and you can get the single now on any digital platform of your choice!

Album Title & Release Date Revealed

Our first album, entitled ‘This Is The Sound’, will be released through Nuclear Blast records on June 30th, 2017.

This is it: this is the result of nearly one year of incredibly intense creativity, of ups and downs, of loss and gain. In less than a year we’ve formed a new band, written an album, and defined our sound. This is the most personal work of our lives: This Is The Sound.

We can’t wait to share it with you!

First Single Released: Challenge is Out Now!

#Challenge is here. We are incredibly excited to share the very first Cellar Darling song with you! Along with ‘Challenge’, we have also released another song from the same writing and recording sessions: ‘Fire, Wind & Earth’ is a bonus track we couldn’t keep from you any longer!

‘Challenge’ is about an inner struggle, a battle you are fighting against yourself and the world. It is you, screaming at yourself in the mirror and getting high on new-found strength. It is failing, overcoming and achieving. The bipolar dance that is life.

We have fallen. We have screamed. We have battled. We found strength. We will overcome.
Both songs are available for streaming and downloading at Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Deezer, and all your favorite platforms and services.

The lyric video features the talent of actress Fabienne Fellmann (who is also featured on the cover artwork). It is based on an idea by Anna Murphy, directed by Anna Murphy & Cellar Darling, with videography and editing by Merlin Sutter and generous post-production help by Michel Frutig at Maybaum Film.

Both songs were recorded and produced by Cellar Darling and Marco Jencarelli & Anna Murphy at Soundfarm, mixed by Tommy Vetterli at New Sound Studio, and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. All strings are recorded by the one and only Shir-Ran Yinon, and the artwork features photography by Merlin Sutter.
