Death: behind the song (& last chance to get the shirt)

"Death" is one of the first songs on "The Spell", but was one of the last to be written for the album. Much of it came together by just playing together a lot, after Ivo brought in all the main riffs. But then we hit a bump in the road: the song just didn't quite sound like "Death" yet.

That's when we came up with the doomy instrumental part, during a short songwriting retreat in New York before our first North American shows. Back in the studio Switzerland we realised that an epic flute solo was required, and then everything fell into place. Now, the song couldn't sound more like Death as he is portrayed in our story: combining beauty, deceitfulness, sadness, and power...

The official video was created by Costin Chioreanu, along with the artwork for the song; during the lockdown back in April we created an acoustic version; and with the release of the album we played the song live for the first time at YouTube Space London:

...and while our first book, featuring background information like the above, has been sold out for a while, the strictly limited t-shirt for "Death" is available for just another two days, before it disappears forever after 21 October:
